510 Madison Avenue

Recently published Sustainable Architecture: Volume 1 Commercial + Office features the energy efficient and environmentally friendly buildings of 100 Park Avenue and 510 Madison Avenue. Earning LEED Silver and Gold Certifications, respectively, the buildings demonstrate unique redevelopment and ground-up programs in New York City.

In the preface, Dan Shannon discusses the challenges met when developing a sustainable program for transformative and new projects. He describes a key focus is to understanding the quality of the space and how best to maximize the experiences of the building tenants, visitors and future users.

Further highlighting that “within the requirements that exist for commercial office buildings, a creative approach to design will improve the overall quality of the building from the inside out.”

On every project, the vision and the design must embrace the challenges of sustainability. Therefore, direct application of simple, practical concepts to innovative and transformative designs, allows for the creation of commercial buildings that encourage productive, welcoming and inspiring spaces.
