5th Annual Pumpkitecture! Competition

As part of Archtober, the Center for Architecture hosts Pumpkintecture!, an annual competition where New York City-based firms go gourd-to-gourd to see who can create the most spectacular pumpkin carving.

The competition has a history of being fierce, and this year was no exception. Monsters of Arms and Skeletons (MdeAS) started preparing weeks in advance, with several brainstorming and trial running sessions. We settled on a design inspired by an axonometric projection, a kaleidoscope, and an exploded pumpkin - aptly titled Axonometric Kaleidokin.

The team - Alexander Wolkow, Anthony Rosas, Ivan Yan, Georgia Shomber, and Tony Dang, with support from Ruxiao Lio - met at the Center for Architecture to bring Axonometric Kaleidokin to life. Given only an hour, the team worked tirelessly to transform a pumpkin into an exploded axon. They used all components of the pumpkin, guts and all, with the only added materials being skewer sticks and a light source.

Overall, Axonometric Kaleidokin held its own among a lineup of impressive creations. The Architecture Research Office ultimately took home the coveted Pritzkerpumpkin grand title - congratulations to their team! Monsters of Arms and Skeletons is proud of our pumpkin carving and had fun bringing the design to fruition.

Thank you to the Center for Architecture for organizing the event! See photos of our process below, and check out more from Pumpkitecture! here.
