237 Park Avenue

237 Park Avenue’s recent renovations have positioned the property as a modern asset amongst Manhattan’s Midtown area. MdeAS’ renovations have both highlighted the building’s strengths and enhanced the fluidity and activity of the surrounding environment. The reflective stainless steel interior panels, now retrofitted with matte white finishes, and the towering twin sculptural wood panels infuse the lobby with a sense of natural light and expansiveness. The renovations to the property’s exteriors will further its distinct sense of fluidity and incandescence, while also distinguishing the property from its surroundings and enhancing the ease of pedestrian passage to and from New York City’s iconic Grand Central Station.

The Sculpted Wall

Incorporated into the interior is a new custom-milled Afrormosia veneer feature wall, which serves the dual function of forming a screen for the elevator shafts while providing a sculptural element that brings warmth and character to the refinished atrium lobby. Composed of MDF and Afrormosia veneers, the algorithmically designed feature wall consists of 48 rows of varying shapes and angles and is hung on new structural steel in front of the elevators. The final forms of the walls were selected for their subtle dynamism. The combination of flat and angled surfaces interact with the spacious lobby, creating a visual illusion in which the wall appears to change shape as it is viewed from different vantage points throughout the space.
