The MdeAS Internship Experience

Nurturing and educating the next generation of architects is our responsibility and privilege. The goal of our internship program is to provide experience and exposure to the many facets of architectural practice. Through a mix of project work, cultural activities, and educational opportunities, we help burgeoning designers hone their craft and gain fundamental industry knowledge that will serve them throughout their future careers.

Culture of Collaboration

At MdeAS, we foster a spirit of collaboration throughout the studio, making for a unique internship opportunity where architectural students have visibility across the firm and can learn from the many different members of our team.

In addition, architectural interns work on active projects, joining internal and external meetings with industry professionals. They will witness each stage of a project, from inception to completion, and hear from the many perspectives within the architectural field.

New York City is one of the most dynamic built environments in the world, and we are fortunate to be part of its progression. As a firm, we are dedicated to continually innovating and believe knowledge is meant to be shared. By the end of the internship, students will understand the various scales and contexts that come together, not only in the development of each building, but in the city as a whole.

Comprehensive Technical Learning

Throughout the internship program, participants will use technical software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino 3D, Autodesk 3DS Max, V-Ray, and Adobe Creative Suite. With a blend of supervised instruction and autonomous work, interns can refine their skills and explore their passions as well as learn potential limitations. Daily guidance and weekly check-ins ensure intentional learning, retention of knowledge, and progression of goals.

By the end of the internship, students will walk away with a comprehensive understanding of the various programs used in architecture and a sense of confidence in their individual abilities to navigate the field moving forward.

Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders

The ability to communicate designs effectively and efficiently to clients, consultants, and contractors is critical in the business of architecture. With that in mind, we provide our interns with the hard and soft skills to propel their careers forward.

During the program, interns can participate in the production of architectural drawings and material selection throughout various phases of the design process. By working with fellow designers, project managers, and industry leaders, interns are introduced to the inner workings of design, communication, and project management that characterize the day-to-day practice of architecture.

Ultimately, we hope our program ignites a passion for architecture in young designers and empowers them to be leaders of tomorrow.

I started with MdeAS as an intern when I was pursuing my graduate degree. Following graduation, I joined the firm full-time as a Junior Designer. Now, almost 7 years later, I serve as an Associate and am so proud of the growth and successes I’ve seen along the way. My mentors have been invaluable to my journey, and I hope to be a resource to the incoming designers today.
