Juan Carlos Artolozaga

Associate

A multifaceted collaborator, Associate Juan Carlos specializes in the relationship between architecture and the urban context. He thoughtfully evaluates the needs of his projects’ inhabitants and astutely understands effective programming. He has designed spaces for a variety of tenant workplaces as well as residential amenities and has expertise in exterior wall redevelopment and ground-floor repositioning. In his time at MdeAS, Juan Carlos has been involved in some of the firm’s largest projects including Two Bryant Park, Columbia University’s Alumni Auditorium & Schaefer Awards Gallery, and PENN 2.

Most recently, Juan Carlos completed the repositioning of Two Bryant Park and Grace Plaza as part of the larger corporate campus in Midtown Manhattan. The project team was challenged by ownership to redevelop Two Bryant Park to be an extension of the tenant’s New York headquarters across Sixth Avenue with a design that provided an identity as a stand-alone building. As Two Bryant Park uniquely sits between a public plaza and Bryant Park, Juan Carlos leveraged his knowledge and experience with P.O.P.S. spaces to allow him to successfully activate the urban spaces to the advantage of the public and the private. Two Bryant Park was recognized as a Gold Winner for Better Future’s New York Design Awards - Commercial Architecture in 2022.

As a project manager, Juan Carlos oversees the day-to-day coordination of integrated project teams, ensuring that project goals are stated and consistently met. He seamlessly transforms spaces from renderings into reality with an understanding of the built environment while in schematic design. He remains committed to designing inclusive and accessible spaces while improving the living and working conditions of those who occupy them.
